This 1979 recording of the 50th anniversary concert repeating Ricci's first appearance at Carnegie Hall is fine as a memento of an historical event. Both he and his friend and colleauge Martha Argerich are in good form; unfortunately so are the audience whose presence one cannot ignore. Of late I find I am working up a strong bias against live recordings, particularly when, as here, the resulting sound is compromised. James Methuen-Campbell was fully justified in criticizing the sound he heard from the LP.
